Periodontics

Periodontics is a more advanced oral disease, which appears to be caused by anaerobic bacteria. It affects all the tissues surrounding and supporting the tooth, including the gums and the supporting bone.

Patients with periodontitis commonly exhibit significant gum bleeding during tooth brushing, bad breath, gum recession, and exposed tooth roots. The progression of periodontitis can lead to the loss of even seemingly healthy teeth, as the diseased gum tissue and, consequently, the jawbone become compromised.

Periodontics is classified based on the severity of attachment loss into early, moderate, and advanced stages, and based on the extent of the disease into localized and generalized forms.
